Today, asbestos is still used in dozens of products, and the public might not be aware of just how close to home these products are.<\/p>\n<p>Asbestos is the only cause of mesothelioma, so it is important to be aware of the products that\u00a0<em>still<\/em>\u00a0contain this deadly mineral.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Car Parts<\/strong><br \/>\nAsbestos can still be found in automatic transmission components, brake blocks, clutch facings, disk brake pads, drum brake linings, friction materials, and gaskets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Construction Materials<\/strong><br \/>\nMany homes built before 1980 already have asbestos in their flooring, insulation, plaster, and paint. Today, it is still legal to manufacture, import, process and distribute asbestos-containing construction materials such as cement corrugated sheet, flat sheet, pipe, and shingle, non-roof coatings, pipeline wrap, roof coatings, roofing felt, and vinyl tile floor.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"medium-12 columns small-12\">\n<p><strong>Fertilizer and Potting Soil<br \/>\n<\/strong>According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), vermiculite (which may contain a type of naturally occurring asbestos called tremolite-actinolite) has been used in some potting soil and fertilizer. The IDPH says the mineral is used in potting soil for plant growth, and it appears as bright gold or silver flakes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"medium-4 columns small-12\"><strong>Talc<\/strong><br \/>\nAlthough talc isn\u2019t made with asbestos today, <em>Consumer Safety<\/em>\u00a0says, \u201cin nature, talc deposits occur together with asbestos, and mined talc can easily become contaminated with asbestos.\u201d Companies from Justice and Claire\u2019s to Johnson &amp; Johnson have been sued over talc products that have been found to contain asbestos.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":1164,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_coblocks_attr":"","_coblocks_dimensions":"","_coblocks_responsive_height":"","_coblocks_accordion_ie_support":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[27,25],"tags":[11,12,14],"class_list":["post-970","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-asbestos","category-mesothelioma","tag-governments","tag-international","tag-taxes"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.8.1 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>What Products Still Have Asbestos in Them?
